On the fifth and final day of the Punchestown Festival, Saturday, 30 April, the horse racing NAP of the Day with SportsLens tipsters is Epatante. She contests the 2m 4f Grade 1 Mares Champion Hurdle (3:50). Nicky Henderson’s British raider is our best value Bet of the Day at fine 5/4 odds.
It’s rare that Epatante, one of top National Hunt horse racing mares is odds against. She is today, however, after impressing when stepping up to this trip and scoring at Aintree last time out. Owned by JP McManus, Epatante thus rates our horse racing NAP of the Day this Saturday.
Why will horse racing NAP of the Day Epatante win?
Successful in the Aintree Hurdle against the geldings during the Grand National meeting last time out, Epatante bolted up. She now reverts back to racing against her own sex off the back of a 14-length romp on her first try over 2m 4f. A proven Grade 1 performer, the daughter of No Risk At All clearly has more to offer over this distance.
Some 7lb and upwards clear of the field, Epatante has past race results that give her leading form claims. Only the mighty Honeysuckle was too good for her in the Champion Hurdle on her penultimate start. Regular jockey Aidan Coleman is again aboard too. The 5/4 with 888Sport looks well worth taking.
Point Lonsdale the each way play in 2000 Guineas
Back here in Britain and away from our horse racing NAP of the Day, the feature contest on Saturday is the first Classic of the season, the 2000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket (3:40). While Native Trail is a worthy favourite on the best UK betting sites, all value in his price has long gone. Instead, Point Lonsdale looks overpriced on his run behind that one.
One of two trained by Aidan O’Brien, who has a record 10 wins in the race, stable jockey Ryan Moore prefers Epsom Derby contender Luxembourg. That means a spare and only ride of the day for Frankie Dettori aboard Point Lonsdale. When the popular jockey teams up with Ballydoyle, it’s a profitable angle for punters.
Dettori & O’Brien a profitable pair
Dettori has a 21 per cent strike rate riding for O’Brien in the UK. Backing that combination blind on horse racing betting sites with the bookies would’ve yielded £10.16 profit off a £1 level stake. Point Lonsdale won his first four starts as a juvenile well enough too. Although no match for Native Trail at The Curragh, there is a big difference in price between them.
Moore may have picked Luxembourg with one eye on The Derby. Ballydoyle have a more than capable deputy on their so-called second string, who may be better suited by the Rowley Mile. At double figure odds and 888Sport paying four places, Point Lonsdale looks a great each way bet. A £10 punt on him qualifies new customers for £40 in bonuses.
