Why will The Texan win?
There is already evidence that this horse is progressing. The Texan ran third on his Point debut at Fairyhouse in April, then improved and finished one place better at Tattersalls Farm. He went down fighting by 1 1/2 lengths to House Of Stories there. The winner previously came fifth to Minella Crooner at Cork, and that one has since cruised to a bumper win at Sligo last Friday.
This collateral form makes The Texan of obvious interest. The powerful connections of the Coolmore set Magnier, Tabor and Smith definitely liked what they saw as they purchased him and sent the horse over to the UK to Jonjo O’Neill. That ownership isn’t known for its jumpers, however, and chose to sell The Texan on at the Doncaster Sales earlier this month.
He now joins the Newland stable that boasts a fabulous 33 per cent strike rate in bumpers over the last five seasons. The Texan’s new trainer also operates at 28 per cent with his runners at Uttoxeter, so he is clearly in the right hands. Plenty points to a big run, then, and given previous connections, this horse has been held in high regard.
There are some unknown quantities with unraced horses in the field, but The Texan is clearly going the right way. A £12.50 each way punt on him returns £115 in at his current price. If The Texan doesn’t go one better on his British bow, then QuinnBet returns the stake as a free bet.
