Let’s take a look at their eight albums that hit No. 1 in 2020:
Easy Money Baby – Myke Towers
The Puerto Rican rapper earned his first entry on any Billboard albums chart as his sophomore full-length album arrived at No. 1 on the Feb. 10 survey. “This is a giant step in this new phase of my career,” Towers told Billboard, excited about claiming his first leader in his first chart visit.
Alter Ego – Prince Royce
The bachata star nabbed his fifth No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart when Alter Ego launched atop the chart dated Feb. 22. The double album consisting of Genesis and Enigma chapters became the first set by a tropical music act to bow at No. 1 since Romeo Santos’ Utopía arrived atop the tally on the April 20, 2019-dated chart.
Hecho en México – Alejandro Fernández
“Hecho en México is an album that connects the Latin community wherever we are, and I’m proud to take our Mexican music to the rest of the world,” Fernández told Billboard when the 11-track set bowed at No. 1 (Feb. 29-dated list). With his new coronation, Fernández became the first act to achieve No. 1s on Top Latin Albums in the 1990s, ‘00s, ‘10s, and ‘20s, starting with his first chart entry and 12-week ruler Me Estoy Enamorando in 1997.
YHLQMDLG – Bad Bunny
“When I make music, my vision goes beyond the numbers… I do what I want, and it’s based on feelings,” Bad Bunny told Billboard when YHLQMDLG, his third studio effort, opened at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart and at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart (dated March 14). He scored the highest-charting all-Spanish-language album ever, the biggest streaming week ever for a Latin album, and the largest week for a Latin title since Billboard began tracking albums by equivalent album units in December 2014. As Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG arrived atop Top Latin Albums, he replaced himself at No. 1, bumping X100PRE, a 46-week ruler to the runner-up slot.
Las Que No Iban A Salir – Bad Bunny
When Bad Bunny’s fourth studio album debuted at No. 1 on the May 23 survey, he outdid himself, as the 10-track set evicted his own YHLQMDLG from the penthouse, which arrived at No. 1 on the March 14-dated tally. The album arrived atop the tally despite its less than five days of tracking activity. While most albums drop on Friday morning, which is the first day of Nielsen Music/MRC Data’s tracking week, the set dropped as an impromptu release on the afternoon of Sunday, May 10. With 46 million on-demand audio streams for its songs in the week ending May 21, Las Que No Iban A Salir earned the second-largest Latin streaming debut in 2020. It trailed his own YHLQMDLG, as the album net a record 201.4 million on-demand streams in its first week.
Emmanuel – Anuel AA
“I feel just like Kobe when he won his second championship,” an excited Anuel told Billboard when his sophomore album dethroned Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG as it arrived at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart dated June 16. The 22-track set yielded 14 debuts on the Hot Latin Songs chart — two of them in the top 10 — which joined two earlier Anuel tracks that were already on the chart, placing a total of 16 songs on the chart (Anuel had never had more than 10 titles on the list at one time).
Vibras de Noche – Eslabon Armado
The teenage trio’s sophomore album scored the biggest week for a regional Mexican album in 2020. “Production wise, it meant a great effort as it we were super demanding in defining the sound we were looking for,” 18-year-old Pedro Tovar, lead vocalist and composer of the group, told Billboard when the set bowed at No. 1 on the August 10-dated tally. Vibras de Noche net the largest week in terms of units earned, for a regional Mexican album in 2020. With 23,000 equivalent album units, it outdid Fernández’s Hecho en México which launched with 16,000 units. As eight tracks of the album arrived on Hot Latin Songs, Eslabon placed a total nine simultaneous titles on the chart, the most for a regional Mexican act since Juan Gabriel placed 10 in Sept. 2016, one month after his death.
ENOC – Ozuna
Ozuna secured his fourth straight No. 1 on Top Latin Albums as fourth studio album ENOC debuted at No. 1 (dated Sept. 19). “I thank my colleagues who participated in this project, by making it a varied one for the enjoyment of all fans around the world,” Ozuna told Billboard about the new album which includes collaborations by Doja Cat and Sia, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Wisin, Arcángel and a cocktail of Latin acts.
