Last year, singer-songwroter Bellah Mae did push the envelope with her brand of ‘sad girl pop’ and it seems she will be maintaining that momentum in 2024.
With an EP titled Never Waste A Heartbreak scheduled for release on 3rd May, the UK artist has already unveiled the first single, “Compatible”. This piano-guided song is arguably her most vulnerable yet.
“‘Compatible’ encapsulates the feeling of not feeling chosen or wanted by the person you’re with and worry they’re too comfortable,” Mae states. “And although being comfortable can be good, you don’t want it at the sacrifice of feeling so loved and appreciated. As a songwriter and storyteller, I often take from multiple inspiration around me for writing a song, yet I still didn’t quite expect this one to resonate with so many people.”
The artist’s debut EP, With All Due Disrespect, brought to the fore her intimate songwriting; this new song effectively underscores that.
