Hear Lana Del Rey Cover Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies” for Apple TV’s ‘The New Look’

Hear Lana Del Rey Cover Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies” for Apple TV's 'The New Look'

Lana Del Rey has joined Florence and the Machine and Matty Healy on the list of artists who appear on Apple TV’s The New Look soundtrack. Produced by Jack Antonoff, the soundtrack features contemporary artists covering songs true to the show’s time period.

For her contribution, Del Rey dropped off a rendition of Irving Berlin’s 1926 track “Blue Skies.” The song was originally composed as part of the musical Rodgers and Hart but became a standalone hit after a recorded version was released. Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Willie Nelson are among those who have covered it over the decades.

Del Rey offers her own twist on the jaunty “Blue Skies,” backed by the bass and what sounds to be trumpets and trombones.

“Blue skies / Smiling at me / Nothing but blue skies / Do I see,” she sings.

The singer and Antonoff are longtime friends and collaborators. Antonoff, who recently won a Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, produced Del Rey’s latest album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. He’s also working with the singer on her forthcoming country LP, Lasso.

The first three episodes of The New Look are available now on Apple TV. Stream Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Skies” cover above.
