Healthy Living: National Childhood Grief Awareness Day

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — As we are approaching National Childhood Grief Awareness Day on Nov. 16, Avow Hospice joined us in the ABC7 studio to talk about grief and upcoming programs to help children, especially through the holidays.

Today we welcomed the Manager of Supportive Care with Avow Hospice, Lea Pascotto.

Avow Hospice is a community-focused, not-for-profit organization, serving its friends, families, and neighbors living in Collier County since 1983. It offers grief and bereavement support to the families and friends of patients and anyone in the community who has experienced a loss.

Statistics show that 1 in 12 children in the U.S. will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.

Children experience grief in many ways—some large, some small.

Avow Kids offers support and companionship to children grieving the loss of a parent, sibling, friend, or relative through illness, accident, suicide, or homicide.

Avow also helps children process other types of loss, including divorce, instability in the foster care system, or deployed or incarcerated parents and family members.

For many people, the holiday season comes hand in hand with a number of traditions that can be linked to memories of the person you are grieving.
