SOUTHWEST FLORIDA — On today’s Healthy Living segment we heard about the fear and concern over hurricane season.

Weather-related PTSD is a growing concern months after Hurricane Ian.

Elizabeth Dosoretz mentioned that it was common to see these behaviors following traumatic events.

PTSD causes people to feel intense fear, helplessness or engage in avoidance behaviors, like staying away from certain places.

There are several evidence-based treatments available to help with healing after a hurricane. Individualized treatment plans will often include individual or group therapy. Some people may need medication to help with some of the symptoms of PTSD.
