Harry Styles has shared a new song called “As It Was” from his next album Harry’s House. It’s the first single released from the pop artist’s third solo album. The track arrives with a vivid music video directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Tanu Muino. Check it out below.
“Directing a Harry Styles video was a bucket list dream come true for me as he’s my favorite performer,” Muino said of the “As It Was” visual in a press release. “Shooting him was bittersweet as it was one of the happiest days of my life, but on the second day of the shoot, my country Ukraine was invaded so you can imagine the insane emotions we had while shooting. Me and my team from Ukraine poured so much love into this video and you can see it on screen. It will be a music video I will never forget and now I can happily retire.”
According to a press release, Harry’s House is will include 13 tracks in total. The album was recorded in multiple locations across the United Kingdom, Los Angeles, and Tokyo between 2020 and 2021. Styles wrote the LP alongside frequent collaborators Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson, and Mitch Rowland.
Harry’s House follows Styles’ 2019 album Fine Line and the former One Direction singer’s 2017 full-length solo debut Harry Styles. He announced the new LP in March and revealed the cover art with the news. The title could allude to Joni Mitchell’s song “Harry’s House / Centerpiece” from her 1975 album The Hissing of Summer Lawns; Styles has long professed himself as a major fan of the singer-songwriter, covering her hit “Big Yellow Taxi” in 2020 and later during his NPR “Tiny Desk Concert.” Upon hearing the title of Styles’ next album, Mitchell’s official Twitter account responded with approval: “love the title.”
Styles is set to headline the return of Coachella in April, alongside Kanye West, Billie Eilish, and Swedish Mafia. He’ll follow that with a UK tour in June where Mitski will join him as an opener at select concerts.
Last year, Harry Styles won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance thanks to his track “Watermelon Sugar.” He also got 2021 nods for Best Music Video (for “Adore You”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (for Fine Line).
In recent years, Styles has enjoyed collaborating with a wide range of artists. He kicked off the 2021 Grammys with a special live performance of “Watermelon Sugar” with Blood Orange, tapped Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge to star alongside him in a black-and-white music video for his Fine Line song “Treat People With Kindness,” and he asked Rosalía to narrate the striking music video for his single “Adore You.”
