Hans Zimmer won the award for Best Original Score at the 2022 Oscars tonight. His work on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake beat out scores by Jonny Greenwood (The Power of the Dog), Nicholas Britell (Don’t Look Up), Germaine Franco (Encanto), and Alberto Iglesias (Parallel Mothers).
Zimmer couldn’t attend the Academy Awards ceremony this year due to a performance scheduled for that same night. After learning he won an Oscar for Best Original Score, he tweeted a photo of himself in a hotel bathrobe holding the award, saying, “It’s 2am in Amsterdam, and my daughter Zoë woke me up to go to the hotel bar. Wow!! #Oscars.”
Zimmer won Best Original Score for The Lion King back at the 1995 Academy Awards. Since then, he’s been nominated in the category nine times for his work on Gladiator, As Good as It Gets, Dunkirk, and more.
