After sharing plans in August to launch a campaign co-op mode with season two of Halo Infinite, developer 343 Industries has announced that the next installment of the game will no longer include the popular mode at launch. Instead, the staple Halo mode will arrive at a “later” unspecified date in the second season.
“We are still aiming to deliver campaign network co-op later in season two, and we will share a release date for that and for split-screen co-op as soon as we can,” said Joseph Staten, Halo Infinite‘s head of creative, in a statement. “It’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite.”
Though unconfirmed, it is likely that a two-player split-screen mode will arrive in tandem with campaign co-op later in the season.
“We’re also committed to a great two-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox Series X—and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve,” Staten added.
Additionally, Forge will still arrive in season three, after enduring level editor testing with a small group of community creators. “In the near term, we will continue to privately flight Forge as we develop it while also planning for public flight(s) later this year,” wrote Staten.
Season two will launch on May 3 with new arenas and Big Team Battle maps, as well as new game modes dubbed “Land Grab” and “Last Spartan Standing.”
In other gaming news, three Resident Evil games will receive upgrades in 2022.
