Halia Abdel-Meguid Confirmed For Duffer Brothers’ ‘Death Note’ Netflix Adaptation

Halia Abdel-Meguid Confirmed For Duffer Brothers’ ‘Death Note’ Netflix Adaptation

Back in July, the Duffer Brothers announced the newest project for their production company, Upside Down Pictures — a live-action adaptation of Death Note for Netflix. Recently, the Stranger Things creators confirmed Halia Abdel-Meguid as the lead screenwriter for the project.

According to Deadline, Halia Abdel-Meguid is a fan of the original Death Note manga. As she had lived in Tokyo before, the screenwriter is also fluent in Japanese which will be a considerable asset when adapting from the source material. Abdel-Meguid also scribed for Hulu’s upcoming The Devil in the White City series and is currently also the writing consultant for the Duffers in their adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel, The Talisman.

Death Note had various adaptations in the past, which include a critically-acclaimed anime series by Madhouse, along with several live-action movies. Several producers from the 2017 American Death Note adaptation will also be involved in the latest Netflix series adaptions. The list includes Dan Lin, Roy Lin, Jonathan Eirich, and Miri Yoon.

Elsewhere in entertainment, House of the Dragon becomes HBO’s most-watched season finale since Game of Thrones.
