Green Day Shreds on “One Eyed Bastard”

Green Day Shreds on "One Eyed Bastard"

Green Day has shared the final single from the band’s upcoming Saviors LP. The group’s latest offering is the fourth track lifted from the highly anticipated 15-track album; dubbed “One Eyed Bastard,” the heavy-hitting pop-punk anthem finds the group in its zone.

A classic Green Day offering, the three-minute cut is led by a guitar riff and lyrics of resistance. “Vendetta is a friend of mine / Revenge is sweeter than wine / I never asked to hear your god-damned feelings / Get on your knees when you are kissing my ring,” the pre-chorus asserts.

“Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life,” Billie Joe Armstrong noted in a statement. “That’s the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, ‘That was an awful time.’ Everybody’s got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts — it could be like revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting.”

Reportedly, the track started as just an impromptu guitar riff – what Armstrong calls “a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff” – per Rolling Stone. “One Eyed Bastard” joins “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” “Look Ma, No Brains!” and “Dilemma” as the project’s official singles.

Stream “One Eyed Bastard” on Spotify and Apple Music now. Expect Saviors to land on streaming on Friday, January 19.
