Google Unveils AI Chatbot “Bard”

Google Unveils AI Chatbot "Bard"

As ChatGPT becomes the fastest-growing consumer application in the history of the internet and we see more and more AI applications across creative fields that were never thought to be possible, Google now unveils its new “experimental conversational AI service” they’re calling Bard.

Combining the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power and intelligence of Google’s large language models, officially titled Language Model for Dialogue Applications or LaMDA for short, Bard draws upon the collective information on the web to provide “fresh, high-quality” responses. From explaining new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old to learning more about the best strikers in football and recommending drills to build your skills, Bard is able to simplify complex topics into organized and digestible responses.

“AI is the most profound technology we are working on today. Whether it’s helping doctors detect diseases earlier or enabling people to access information in their own language, AI helps people, businesses and communities unlock their potential,” writes Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. “That’s why we re-oriented the company around AI six years ago — and why we see it as the most important way we can deliver on our mission: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” The blog by Pichai further highlights that the scale of the largest AI computations right now is doubling every six months, far exceeding the rate increase (every two years) of Moore’s Law.

In order to ensure a high level of quality and safety, Bard will first roll out to a small group of trusted users, utilizing a lightweight model version of LaMDA, before scaling to a wider audience.

More information is expected to be unveiled at the “Google Presents” event in Paris on February 8.
