A 31-year-old influencer has recently gone viral after sharing a glimpse of his frugal lifestyle on social media, and people are all here for it.
In a post shared on TikTok on Monday, under the username baddie.brad, he said that he has chosen to live a minimalist life, free of society’s consumeristic pressures.
A caption explains: “My outdated kitchen still keeps me fed. My worn out shoes still protect my feet. My untrendy water bottle still keeps my water cold. My outdated headphones still bring me the songs I love. Most of my clothes are from college 8 years ago but are still in good condition. A grateful and minimal life is a beautiful one.”
He also added: “No I don’t need to “treat myself”. I’m grateful and content with what I have and don’t desire to replace things that are completely fine to impress others.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey, American consumers spent on average $6,081 a month in 2022, a 9 percent increase from the previous year.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 2.1 million views and 453,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Maida Hijab Designer & Seller, commented: “Should normalize this, instead of the wasteful consumerism that hurts our wallets & environment. good for you!”
And Emily said: “Everything but the shoes . I wore out shoes and gave myself plantar fasciitis . It took me almost 6 months to self rehab it.”
Edwin_S wrote: “THIS!!!! Electrical cars or the latest phones are not going to fix the world, But our stance against hyper consumerism might go a long way though!” And kiradarwish said: “This is what minimalist should be. Not like the modern minimalist.”
Another user, Ces, commented: “I feel like tiktok has brainwashed a lot of us that we need to have an ‘influencer’ life. I’m happy with my humble living.”
And Ian Bryce added: “It’s crazy to think there are people replacing their wardrobe every month. Like bruh I still wear clothes from HS and I’m 25 now.”
Strawberry switchblade said: “The mindset that has changed me forever, I used to go to stores and just spend and now I don’t feel the need to spend.”
