Rian Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out was one of the best films of 2019, making $311.4 million on a $40 million budget and earning a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the 2020 Oscars. Unsurprisingly, then, Johnson is poised to follow it up with a sequel. In fact, Netflix shelled out a cool $450 million to ensure he’d make two.
Ahead of Knives Out 2‘s release, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the forthcoming sequel.
What Is Knives Out, Again?
The first Knives Out film starred Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, a detective investigating the death of the patriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family. Christopher Plummer portrayed deceased 85-year-old author Harlan Thrombey, while Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, K Callan, and Riki Lindhome portrayed his suspicious family. Ana de Armas, Lakeith Stanfield, Edi Patterson, Frank Oz, Noah Segan, M. Emmet Walsh, and Marlene Forte rounded out the cast.

Nope! Earlier this summer, Rian Johnson revealed that the Knives Out sequel is officially titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
What Is Glass Onion About, Exactly?
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set in Greece, where Craig’s Detective Blanc is investigating a new crime. In the sequel, newcomer Edward Norton stars as tech billionaire Miles Bron. While not much is known about the plot, Norton’s character owns the island to which Blanc travels, so it’s clear he’s involved in the crime in some way.

A whole new cast of out-of-touch characters populate Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Alongside Craig and Norton, Leslie Odom Jr. plays Lionel Toussaint, a scientist who works for Bron, while Kathryn Hahn portrays Claire Debella, a Connecticut governor running for Senate. Kate Hudson plays a fashionista named Birdie Jay who comes with an assistant named Peg (Jessica Henwick). Meanwhile, Dave Bautista plays a famous YouTuber named Duke Cody who attends a party at Bron’s mansion with his girlfriend Whiskey (Madelyn Cline), and Janelle Monáe portrays the tech entrepreneur Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery begins streaming on Netflix on December 23rd, and premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
