GKIDS has announced official US theatrical premiere dates for the Spirited Away live-action stage play.
This announcement follows shortly after GKIDs secured distribution rights to the official recordings of the Spirited Away: Live on Stage performance. Scheduled as a two-day screening event as part of this year’s Ghibli Fest, the showing will feature different recordings of the stage performance on each of the days. The version that’s on view for April 23 features Kanan Hashimoto as the sulky heroine, Chihiro. And for the screening on April 24, Chihiro is played by Mone Kamishiraishi.
In addition to this, Ghibli Fest 2023 will also include theatrical screenings of Hayao Miyazaki‘s many acclaimed animated features, available in both English dubbed versions as well as the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The fest will be kickstarted with a series of viewings of My Neighbor Totoro. Followed by consecutive screenings of Spirited Away: Live On Stage, Ponyo, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, The Wind Rises, Howl’s Moving Castle, as well as the original Spirited Away.
Ghibli Fest 2023 will run for around eight months, beginning on March 25 and ending on November 1. For the detailed screening schedule and the list of participating theaters for Ghibli Fest, head to their official website for more information.
