Peter Wright snagged the £10,000 prize and five points in week one, while Jonny Clayton took the honours last week in Liverpool, leaving the other six Premier League stars trailing in their wake ahead of this week’s showdown.
World champion Wright takes on compatriot Gary Anderson in arguably the pick of the quarter-final ties, after a red-hot Joe Cullen takes on Michael van Gerwen, who follow the night’s opener between Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price. James Wade and Johnny Clayton will then round off proceedings in the final match.
Gary Anderson v Peter Wright prediction
This really is a tough which game to predict because while Wright played well in week one, he was nowhere near his peak in Liverpool last week as he was dismantled by Michael van Gerwen. Gary Anderson was also below par as lost his opening match to Gerwyn Price seven days ago. Historically, Anderson has had the better of the two Scotsman’s encounters but that record has swung in recent times.
Since the start of 2021 Wright has won three out of the four televised meetings and this this one should go the same way. Wright, as always, has been tinkering with his set-up which can go both for and against him but the world champion has hit the heights far more often than Anderson in recent times, so backing Snakebite is the safer play.
Anderson is lagging behind on 180s hit with just five compared to Wright’s 10, an indicator of who is throwing more consistently. But their double percentage is almost identical with Anderson nailing the outer ring 47 per cent of the time and Wright slightly worse at 46. Wright’s three-dart average is just shy of 100, while Anderson is a way back on 94.07.

Gary Anderson v Peter Wright betting tips
Snakebite should have the beating of Anderson and with no draws in this year’s tournament the handicap market becomes more interesting. The Flying Scotsman will have the darts in the first leg of the match meaning Wright will have to break his throw at some point in order to claim victory. He can be backed with a -1.5 leg handicap at 4/5 but I’m not convinced that’s the way to go.
Looking at the early differential in the amount of maximums the two players are throwing has me leaning towards the 180 market for this match. Wright hit 72 180s during the World Championship putting him well clear of Gary Anderson who hit just 36, exactly half of his total. Funnily enough Anderson has hit exactly half of Wright’s five so far in the Premier League and I certainly expect him to hammer the ‘lipstick’ more times than his opponent in Belfast too.
