MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — With an abundance of events taking place in Milwaukee throughout the weekend, one in particular has taken the time to celebrate Rhythm and Blues while offering fun for the entire family in Milwaukee’s historic Halyard Park neighborhood.

Garfield’s 502 R&B Festival has returned with a large attendance on Saturday, July 15, during which the community has organized to celebrate food, music and culture.

Milele Coggs, District 6 Alderwoman tells CBS 58 that the festival offers a lot to be excited about. “At this event, I see nothing but sunrays, great food, great people and great merchandise.”

The festival features dozens of musical acts and much more and is hosted by Garfield’s 502, a neighborhood restaurant and bar, as well as a staple in the community.

Brandon and Julian Currie, two sons of Garfield 502’s owner believe take a great deal of pride in the festival as being part of their family’s legacy. Julian summarized his feelings as, “Proud of what my father has accomplished. Proud of how everyone’s come together and banded together to put something on so memorable and touch generations from generations.”

The free event is a chance for the community to enjoy family fun, support local businesses, indulge in food, enjoy multiple stages of music and event support fashion and beauty through hundreds of vendors.

City officials were seen on Saturday enjoying the fun, including Mayor Cavalier Johnson who said expressed his excitement about Milwaukee being the city of festivals.

“This is the place you want to be; we’re a city of our own and I think that’s part of the reason why I want to grow the population because I think that’s part of it, too. When people see that it’s an even bigger city, people start to pay more attention.”

The festival ends on Saturday at 8 p.m.
