HBO’s Games of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon will arrive towards the end of the summer on August 21. The streamer announced the upcoming release today with a promotional image of a hatching dragon egg.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire and Blood, the show is a prequel set 200 years before the events of the main Game of Thrones series. Per its name, the new show will focus on the fall of the House of Targaryen and the beginning of the Targaryen civil war.
Martin released Fire and Blood in late 2018 and co-created the show with Ryan J. Condal, which received a straight-to-series order in October 2019. The first season will consist of ten episodes.
Paddy Considine stars as King Viserys I Targaryen, while Matt Smith plays his younger brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen. Also in the Targaryen family, Emma D’Arcy portrays Princess Rhaenyra alongside Eve Best as a cousin of King Viserys, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon.
Games of Thrones: House of the Dragon is available for streaming on HBO Max on August 21.
