It’s another high-five for The Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs.
The internationally known resort on the city’s southwest side received a top score of five stars from the Forbes Travel Guide in the publication’s 2024 global ratings of hotels, restaurants, spas and cruise ships that were announced Wednesday.
Forbes and its predecessor travel publications now have awarded five stars to the The Broadmoor for 64 straight years, which is the longest streak for any hotel worldwide.
The Broadmoor — a luxury resort with more than 780 rooms, golf courses, tennis courts, pools, restaurants and other amenities — has counted presidents, heads of state, acclaimed athletes and Hollywood celebrities among its guests since it opened in 1918. The hotel is owned by the Denver-based Anschutz Corp., whose Clarity Media Group owns The Gazette.
Like last year, The Broadmoor was one of only three Colorado hotels to be awarded five stars by Forbes in 2024. The others were the Little Nell in Aspen, which has won the top rating for 29 consecutive years, and the Madeline Hotel and Residences in Telluride, a five-star winner for three straight years.
Forbes describes itself as the only independent global rating system for luxury hotels, ocean cruises, restaurants and spas. Its inspectors anonymously evaluate roughly 2,000 properties in more than 80 countries, basing their ratings on up to 900 objective standards, with an emphasis on service, according to the Forbes Travel Guide website.
Among other Colorado highlights in the Forbes Travel Guide ratings for 2024:
• In the hotel category, five properties received four-star ratings: the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons hotels in Denver; the St. Regis Aspen Resort in Aspen; the St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder; and the Four Seasons Resort and Residences in Vail. Forbes also “recommended” four hotels: the Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection in Aspen; the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Avon; the Gateway Canyons Resort in Gateway; and the Gravity Haus Vail in Vail.
• The Broadmoor’s spa was the lone winner of five stars; four-star spas were found at the Ritz-Carlton in Denver and the Four Seasons Resort and Residences in Vail.
• There were no five-star restaurants in Colorado. For the first time, The Broadmoor hotel’s Summit restaurant received a four-star rating from Forbes; it was joined by Element 47 at the Little Nell in Aspen. Two restaurants were recommended by Forbes: WYLD at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Avon and the Edge Restaurant & Bar at the Four Seasons in Denver.
In a separate list of U.S. hotels published Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report, The Broadmoor was ranked as the nation’s 19th-best hotel and No. 1 in Colorado.
Of the best hotels in Colorado ranked by U.S. News & World Report, other Pikes Peak region properties in the top 100 were the Lodge at Flying Horse in northern Colorado Springs, No. 33; the Mining Exchange, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and Spa in the Springs’ downtown, No. 37; the northwest side Garden of the Gods Resort & Club, No. 38; the Cliff House at Pikes Peak in Manitou Springs, No. 43; and the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, A Dolce by Wyndham on Colorado Springs’ southwest side, No. 64.
