For those not particularly invested in sports, Dave Grohl has a different idea for Super Bowl Sunday. Following February 13th’s big game, Foo Fighters, somehow still finding new ways to infiltrate every aspect of society, will play a virtual reality concert in Meta’s Horizon Venues app.
“Foo Fighters love a challenge — from playing the biggest stages in the world to the tiniest clubs to making movies and miniseries… We’ve pretty much done it all,” Dave Grohl said in a statement. “But we’ve never collaborated with Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs (including one being played live for the first time ever) for a worldwide audience, where everyone has the best seats in the house thanks to the most badass VR tech… until now. Join us when we cross that one off the FF bucket list!”
Foo Fighters’ gig is set to kick off at 8 p.m. PT or immediately following the conclusion of the Super Bowl — whatever occurs last. Fans can watch the show on the band’s Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on the Horizon Venues app. The show boasts an immersive 180-degree experience, which is all fine and dandy, but the promise of a couple deep cuts in the setlist is arguably more exciting (Dave, play “For All the Cows” or “My Poor Brain!”).

Facebook announced its corporate rebrand as Meta back in October, when Mark Zuckerberg referred to virtual reality as “the next frontier.” Given that its social media site just lost users for the first time in its 18-year career, maybe he’s right.
As for Foo Fighters, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers recently contributed the song “Fraggle Rock Rock” to the Apple TV+ series Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, and later this month, they’ll tackle the film world with the release of their horror comedy Studio 666.
