Nearly three decades after Dave Grohl formed the band, Foo Fighters have released their longest song to date. “The Teacher” is a rock anthem that slowly builds over the first minute before exploding into an impassioned guitar and drum set with powerful vocals from Grohl. It also appears to be another tribute to the band’s late drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
The single arrived with a video directed and illustrated by Tony Oursler. The visual zooms around a montage of different locations, imprinting silhouettes of the Foo Fighters’ members over the monochromatic scenes.
“Hurry now boy, time won’t wait / The here and the now will separate,” Grohl sings. “There are some things you cannot choose / Soul and spirit movin’ through.”
“The Teacher” comes off of Foo Fighters’ upcoming LP, But Here We Are. The album will be the band’s first since Hawkins’ passing later year. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Josh Freese would succeed Hawkins as its new drummer.
