The WAFU B Zonal qualifiers which will feature the Flying Eagles of Nigeria and six other West African countries billed for Lome, Togo, has been shifted to a later date due to coronavirus.
The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) confirmed the postponement of the tournament in a communique published on their Twitter handle on Thursday.
The WAFU B Zonal qualifiers which will be the qualifiers for the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, was originally scheduled for November 18 to December 2.
According to FTF they will engage WAFU and CAF to find a new date for the competition.
“The Togolese Football Federation is announcing to the sporting world that the WAFU Zone B tournament scheduled for Lome between November 18 and December has been postponed to a future date following a decision taken by the Togolese Government.
“This decision follows a recent increase in Coronavirus positive cases in the Grand Lome area of Togo.
“There will be deliberations between the West African Football Union and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to propose a new date considering the health situation in the country.
“The Togolese Football Federation wishes to express its sincere apologies to all parties who have been affected by the latest developments.”
Record winners of the U-20 AFCON, Flying Eagles, are in Group B of the WAFU B Zonal qualifiers with Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.
On Tuesday, the Ladan Bosso-led side beat amateur club Tripple 44 Football Club 3-0 in a friendly on Tuesday morning.
In their first friendly against KCG Academy on Sunday, they triumphed 5-0.
