First Teaser Clip of Adam Driver in Francis Ford Coppola’s Highly Anticipated Sci-Fi Epic ‘Megalopolis’

First Teaser Clip of Adam Driver in Francis Ford Coppola's Highly Anticipated Sci-Fi Epic 'Megalopolis'

Critically acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola has finally released the initial teaser for his long-awaited sci-fi drama film, Megalopolis starring Adam Driver. Following the news of him no longer appearing in future Star Wars films, Driver has evidently chosen a different direction with his latest projects.

Megalopolis is slated to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and has reportedly been years in the making for Coppola. The legendary filmmaker behind some of the most iconic movies like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, first began working on the screenplay in the 1980s. In an interview with GQ he was asked about how he felt after he invested $120 million USD of his own money into the film, “I couldn’t care less about the financial impact whatsoever. It means nothing to me.”

Committed to perfection, the film features an all-star cast that consists of Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney and Dustin Hoffman alongside Driver. In the official synopsis, it reads, “Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.”

The first clip released on YouTube shows Adam Driver’s character, an architect named Cesar Catilina who seems to be teetering on the roof a skyscraper. With the ability to stop time, he wants to rebuild the city. The clip shows off Cesar’s ability as he appears to think of jumping, but as gravity begins to take its course, he cries out, “Time stop!” Below him, all the cars on the the street seem to stop in a moment in time, allowing him to move freely.
