The first-ever “HWA EVO” restomod built by HWA AG has surfaced at auction via RM Sotheby’s and is estimated to fetch as much as $1,000,000 USD by the sales close.
This road-legal sports car reinterprets the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II, incorporating cutting-edge technologies. The car was first unveiled in late 2023, with a limited production run of 100 units and a retail price of just over $777,000 USD.
The HWA EVO blends HWA AG’s rich motorsport heritage with contemporary and future technologies. This modern tribute to the iconic 1990s DTM car, which famously earned Klaus Ludwig his first DTM title in 1992, is certainly an attention grabber for enthusiasts and collectors alike. The original Evo II, with only 500 units produced for homologation, was a benchmark for design and performance in its era.
Developed on the Mercedes-Benz W201 series platform, the HWA EVO retains the classic design language while integrating state-of-the-art advancements in powertrain, performance, chassis, brakes, aerodynamics and safety. At the time of its unveiling, the HWA EVO project coincided with the automaker’s 25th anniversary, symbolizing the company’s evolution into a major player in high-performance car engineering and production.
With delivery for orders of the HWA EVO not expected to begin until 2025, this offering by RM Sotheby’s presents an early opportunity to own the very first example of the build, with bidding set to open on July 27 as part of The Tegernsee Auction.
