Focus Features on Wednesday shared the second official trailer for its upcoming Viking revenge film The Northman.
The preview, which sees Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, Nicole Kidman as Queen Gudrún, Anya Taylor-Joy as Olga, Björk as The Seeress, Willem Dafoe as Heimir the Fool and Ethan Hawke as King Aurvandil, sets the scene for an all-out battle, complete with flaming torches, blood-soaked swords and thrilling action sequences.
“I cannot escape my fate,” Amleth says in the final frames of the visual, as he approaches a fiery battleground with a weapon in hand.
The movie, which takes place in 10th-century Iceland, is “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father,” according to Focus’ official description. Production was first scheduled in Northern Ireland in March 2020 before being pushed back to August of that year due to the pandemic.
Robert Eggers is directing the film based on a script he co-wrote with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón. Additionally, the project enlists cinematographer Jarin Blaschke and editor Louise Ford, alongside producers Lars Knudsen, Mark Huffam and New Regency.
The Northman will hit theaters on April 22, 2022. Watch the trailer above.
Elsewhere in entertainment, the Obi-Wan Kenobi writer has explained the show’s timeline in the Star Wars universe.
