Diplo and Joji’s new song “Daylight” has topped this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Aug. 7) on Billboard, choosing the latest single from Joji’s forthcoming album, Nectar, as their favorite new music release from the past week.
In the music video for their new collaborative track, Diplo and Joji work behind the scenes on a video shoot for an elderly boy band. The pair is tormented by a very tanned, waxed and demanding director before breaking into the wardrobe department and wreaking an innocent sort of havoc on the set.
“Daylight” brought in 42% of the vote this week, beating out new music by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion (“WAP”), Juice WRLD featuring The Weeknd (“Smile”) and Doja Cat (“Freak”).
Joji’s Nectar is scheduled for release on Sept. 25 through 88rising, with distribution by 12Tone Music.
Coming in second place on this week’s poll with 26% of the vote was Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s wet-and-wild collaboration “WAP.” The music video for the new track featured cameos by Normani, Mulatto, Sukihana and others.
“WAP,” which samples Frank Ski’s “Whores in This House,” ultimately pays homage to Lil’ Kim, down to her iconic squat, colored wigs that matched the set, hair designs, and nipple pasties, as well as ’90s hip-hop stylist Misa Hylton, who played an instrumental role in helming Lil’ Kim’s looks.
Placing third on this week’s poll was the “other” category, which accounted for 16% of the vote, followed by Juice WRLD and The Weekend in fourth with 7%.
