Facebook’s Oculus Quest Line Rebrands as Meta Quest

Facebook’s Oculus Quest Line Rebrands as Meta Quest

Following a historic announcement that Facebook‘s company name will change to Meta in order to better reflect the company’s goals of building out the metaverse, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth announced that the company will also be phasing out its Oculus branding.

Virtual reality is currently the most immersive way for individuals to access the metaverse, and with ambitious goals of bringing 1 billion people into VR, Meta wants to make it clear that the Quest product line comes from them. Beginning 2022, the Oculus Quest line will be rebranded as Meta Quest, the Oculus App will be known as the Meta Quest App, and the Facebook Portal video device will be named Meta Portal. Bosworth also announced that the Meta Horizon brand will expand to encompass all first-party immersive social experiences, adding to its existing Horizon Workrooms and Horizon Worlds spaces to include Horizon Home, Horizon Venues, Horizon Friends, and Horizon Profiles.

“We all have a strong attachment to the Oculus brand, and this was a very difficult decision to make,” Bosworth said in a blog post. “While we’re changing the brand of the hardware, Oculus will continue to be a core part of our DNA and will live on in things like software and developer tools.”

In other tech news, someone’s purchase of $8,000 USD worth of Shiba Inu coin last year is now worth $6 billion USD.
