Facebook Makes Official Music Videos Available in Mexico

Facebook Makes Official Music Videos Available in Mexico

Facebook has already been hosting videos in Thailand, India and the U.S., which allows artists to post their music videos on their own pages allowing fans to share, react and comment on the post.

“With official music videos on Facebook, we are creating new social experiences that are about more than just watching the video, they also intend to connect people and artists through music.” said Adrian Harley, head of music label partnerships for Facebook and Instagram in Latin America. “We are excited to launch in Mexico in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Merlin, Believe and other independent labels and distributors. We have also established a partnership with EMMAC-SACM, representing all the songwriters and publishers of Mexico.”

The new feature will create a new, more personal way for fans to connect with music and their favorite artists, according to Harley.

“It’s all about connection,” says Harley. “On Facebook, music videos represent so much more than just the video itself. It’s about creating a new channel for social experiences around music so you can discover a new artist from a music video shared by an artist you follow or a friend in News Feed, connect with other fans who share your passion in a Facebook Group dedicated to your favorite artist, and react to a video in real time as it premieres, all on the same platform.”

Harley said it was an obvious next step to make official music videos available in Mexico, where people in the country have created more than 120 million posts and comments with the words música (music), canción (song) and canciones (songs) in the past 90 days alone.

“Latin music and artists are very popular on Facebook and Instagram,” says Harley. “Official music videos are part of our commitment to growing new opportunities for artists and introducing new ways for people to experience music in the places where they already share and connect on Facebook.”

The tech company has also teamed up with Becky G, Camilo, Daddy Yankee and J Balvin for Facebook-only premieres set to drop in the upcoming weeks.

The music destination on Facebook Watch starts rolling out today in Mexico on desktop, iOS and Android.
