The Palm Trees Festival, scheduled for Saturday with headliners Swedish House Mafia and Kygo, is causing some panic in Southampton.
The nine-hour music festival, co-founded by Kygo and his manager Myles Shear, has moved locations from Gabreski Airport in Westhampton to the Shinnecock Nation Reservation in Southampton, with festivities taking place all along Montauk Highway.
The Southampton Village Police Department is warning of “gridlock.”
Some of the 10,000 ticket holders are being moved by bus to the Southampton Village Railroad Station across town, and then transported to the concert location, so traffic throughout Southampton Village is looking pretty grim. The Southampton Village Police Department issued a news release warning folks to stay off the streets if they can.
The police also noted if reidents hear loud music and report it, there is nothing SVPD can do about it because anything on Shinnecock land is out of their jurisdiction.
“There’s going to be a lot of people descending upon the village, but we have a great police department, great first responders and a great chief of police who has the situation well in hand. If you can avoid using the roads on Saturday, please do,” Southampton Village Mayor Bill Manger told the New York Daily News
