HBO announced that the premiere of Euphoria season two received 2.4 million total viewers, marking the largest digital premiere of any HBO episode on HBO Max, according to Deadline.
The episode led the way as Sunday night’s highest performing HBO Max show or movie; however, the large viewer count led the service to partially crash at roughly 9 p.m. ET, when the episode became available to watch. Notably, the season two premiere has ranked more than nine times higher in digital viewing than Euphoria season one.
The second installment of the Sam Levinson-helmed series follows the intersecting lives of high school students in East Highland, placing an emphasis on 17-year-old Rue’s (Zendaya) struggle with addiction.
Ahead of the premiere, Zendaya shared a trigger warning for fans on Instagram, writing, “This season, maybe even more so than the last, is deeply emotional and deals with subject matter that can be triggering and difficult to watch. Please only watch it if you feel comfortable. Take care of yourself and know that either way you are still loved and I can still feel your support.”
Season two also stars Hunter Schafer Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid and Austin Abrams.
New episodes will premiere on HBO Max each Sunday.
