Following the return of Twitter Blue in an ’80s-Inspired logo, Elon Musk now hints at a major change to Twitter‘s post format, confirming rumors that the social media company is preparing to increase its character limit from 280 to 4,000 characters. On Sunday, the Twitter CEO bluntly responded to a comment inquiring about the aforementioned changes with simply, “Yes.”
The last time Twitter increased the maximum character count was in 2017, doubling from 140 to 280. With Musk’s history of changing his mind, the astronomical 14 times increase has yet to be confirmed. The exact number aside, Musk had stated before in November that he was leaning towards a relatively more modest increase of around 1,000 characters as the upper limit. Other changes on the horizon teased by Musk include the display of view counts in an effort to improve transparency.
Stay tuned for more details.
