Eli Russell Linnetz takes over the Los Angeles art world with his MONUMENTS exhibit at the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery. A contemporary, multi-hyphenate artist, Linnetz breaks the boundaries and continues to explore America’s past and present for a new generation in the recent exhibit. Known for his ground-breaking music videos, sculptural projects, photography, live events and his critically acclaimed fashion label ERL, he brings his debut solo fine art exhibit to Los Angeles.
The immersive experience has taken over the gallery with a bold splash of neon shock orange as the undertone of the project, giving his own reinvigoration and imagination of iconic American symbols and landscapes. He re-interprets American landmarks such as Mount Rushmore into a pizza oven as well as the Statue of Liberty. The “Mount Rushmore Pizza Oven” features a fully functioning pizza oven inside and guests are encouraged to try out at gallery-hosted dinners. Both pieces are considered to be the two larger scaled explorations of perennial American monuments. Between the concrete grey monuments, other works by Linnetz that occupy the space include a series of abstract, monochrome portraits of presidents and founding fathers including Theodore Roosevelt, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
Other notable monuments include a rack of hoodies that have be synonymous with the the artists’ own fashion label’s silhouette, commenting on American symbolism. An earlier iteration of the fallen Statue of Liberty was seen during his showcase in 2023 at Pitti Uomo where he presented his Spring 2024 menswear runway. The gallery is open until August 3 with prices for the works of art starting at $15,000 USD.
