While some players endeavor to set world records in Elden Ring by taking absolutely zero damage the entire way through, others have turned to speedruns, trying to complete the game’s main points as quickly as possible. Just a month ago, the world record was a sub-30 minute run, but now the same speedrunner has managed to bring it down all the way below just nine minutes.
Achieved once again by YouTuber Distortion2, his latest world record run sits at just eight minutes and 56 seconds. The feat was made possible thanks to a new discovery by speedrunners in Elden Ring of a bug they call “mega zips,” which allow you to move incredibly quickly across a large portion of terrain. The feature is activated by pulling off a specific sequence of moves, namely blocking and moving forward at the exact same frame. This will cause the idle blocking animation to loop, shooting your character forward at ridiculous speeds.
It’s so effective that speedrunners have begun using it to even skip combat, traveling out of bounds of the game itself and despawning the boss fight area’s geometry, causing the likes of Maliketh and Elden Beast to simply fall to their deaths into nothingness. In fact, those using this technique don’t even see the final boss at all and are automatically teleported to the ending area where they just have to trigger the ending and credits.
