After several shows in Hong Kong, Eddie Martinez has unveiled his first gallery exhibition in mainland China at Perrotin‘s Shanghai outpost.
“Fingers Pointing at the Moon” presents an array of new cardboard paintings, drawings and tabletop sculptures. In an interview with curator, Fiona He, the artist states that the title of the show references a quote that Jeff Bridges gave in The Big Lebowski, “I could just be sitting here with pee stains on my rug,” which the artist believes is another way to tell the viewer to “stop running to something, embrace what is already here/there and be grateful for that.”
Known for his diaristic drawings that manifest on the go — Martinez creates in the moment. Typically working across portraits, landscapes and still-lifes, Martinez has developed an uncanny ability to cycle between traditional and unconventional forms of artmaking — a testament to his spontaneous trane of thought. “Fingers Pointing at the Moon” is on view at Perrotin Shanghai until Christmas day.
Elsewhere, Alec Monopoly pays respect to Virgil Abloh with a mural in Miami.
