The featured artists, which include Andrew Park, Bradley Ward, Henry Swanson, Jewel Ham, Lindsay Dawn, Michael C. Thorpe and Okey Ofomata, among others, exist “at the intersection of fashion, sport, and contemporary art,” per Otabor.
The exhibition’s official description reads: “Varied media and subject matter speak to a universal language of style that transcends time, geography, or utilitarian purpose— aims that have been integral to the development of brand identity and apparel throughout Nike’s illustrious history. The undeniable thread of the sneaker’s influence throughout these artworks celebrates a unification of communities through the collective appreciation of design and aesthetics.”
Sole Perspectives will be on view at 3408 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33127 from December 9 to 10. On December 9, there will be a raffle for a limited-edition pair of Air Force 1’s designed by Michael C. Thorpe; and on December 10 at 12 p.m. ET, there will be a panel discussion with Otabor, Aya Brown, and Jacob Rochester, with moderator Danny Baez. See the event’s flyer in the gallery above.
