With Dune: Spice Wars already offering early access, fans of Frank Herbert‘s sci-fi franchise are now in for another treat: Funcom has just unveiled Dune: Awakening over at Gamescom. Unlike Spice Wars, the new title will stray away from RTS and instead offer players a full MMO experience set in the hostile planet of Arrakis, adding in survival aspects as you traverse the desert world.
While the new announcement trailer doesn’t shed any light on its gameplay, we do see a male character dressed in the iconic Stillsuit overlooking a cliff edge before a massive sandworm swallows a spice harvester down below. Other details revolving around the game remain scarce for the time being, but its Steam page does list a few gameplay aspects fans can expect, including the exploration of Arrakis and its many wreckages, ruins and abandoned sietches, looking for and harvesting spice while fending off raiders and rival factions, and building your very own faction and fortress through accumulating wealth and influence.
Unfortunately, Funcom hasn’t announced a release date just yet for Dune: Awakening, but those interested can sign up for beta access over on the game’s website.
Elsewhere in gaming, Quantic Dream is bringing players deep under the North Sea with Under the Waves.
