Last night (July 27) during Dua Lipa’s concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, a series of unauthorized fireworks were set off on the venue floor, according to reports from Toronto network CityNews and Billboard. As a result, some fans reportedly sustained injuries as the fireworks shot into the audience at the crowded venue. Now, the singer has issued a statement regarding the incident.
“Creating a safe and inclusive space at my shows is always my first priority, and my team and I are just as shocked and confused by the events as you all are,” Lipa wrote in an Instagram story (viewed by Pitchfork). “There is an ongoing investigation into the events being conducted.” Find her full statement below.
In videos released by CityNews and posted on social media, fireworks can be seen shooting from the floor of the venue into the crowd. CityNews also reported that three attendees received minor aid onsite at the venue. One concertgoer posted a photo of burn marks on their leg. Toronto Police confirmed to CityNews they received a call around 11:40 p.m. in relation to the incident, which is currently being investigated.
