Driver Laments One Year After Ibadan Tanker Fire That Burnt Car

One of the car owners who lost their vehicles to the tanker fire in Ibadan, Oyo State in November 2021, Tolani Kolade, has cried out on Twitter over the lack of any communication from the Oyo State government after the incident.

Kolade, who took to his Twitter handle on Monday, to mark the anniversary of the day he nearly lost his life, revealed that his burnt vehicle, which he uses for commercial purposes, had not been returned to him.

He called on the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, to revisit the incident.

Kolade tweeted, “Thank God for life. Over a year ago, I almost lost my life. Dear Gov Sir, #seyiamakinde it’s been over a year now and no one has got back to us sir. We tried all possible best. Even my burnt car wasn’t given back to me, it’s still in Oyo State secretariat. The fuel recovered from the burnt tanker has been claimed. I made it clear that I was a #Boltapp_ng driver and it hasn’t been easy.”

Narrating the incident to our correspondent in 2021, Kolade said, “I am a Bolt driver and my car was completely burnt. The truck was ascending the hill and I was at the back a few meters away. When I saw that the tanker was coming backwards, I abandoned my car and ran out to save my life. Luckily I escaped but my car was destroyed by fire. But I thank God.”
