Drama Series Based on Usher’s Music in the Works

Drama Series Based on Usher’s Music in the Works

The music of Usher will form the basis for a drama series in the works at Universal Studio Group’s UCP.

The Super Bowl LVIII halftime headliner and Grammy winner will executive produce a drama inspired by his music. Selwyn Seyfu Hinds (Hulu’s Washington Black) and Katie Zucker of Mad Massive Media and Kenny Meiselas of KMei Productions are also executive producing.

“My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” Usher said in a statement. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”

The untitled drama will be set in Atlanta and will focus on “Black love and individuals looking to find a place to call home. The series will explore music, style, sex, romance and secrets that threaten to tear relationships apart,” according to its logline. A writer isn’t attached yet, nor has UCP taken the project out to potential buyers.

In addition to the Super Bowl halftime show, Usher recently finished a two-year Las Vegas residency and released a new album, Coming Home, on Feb. 9. He’s scheduled to go on tour in support of the album in August.

Usher is repped by WME and attorney Kenny Meiselas. Hinds is repped by CAA, The Gotham Group and attorney Gordon Bobb. KMei Productions is with CAA.
