DRAM Announces New Album What Had Happened Was, Shares Song

After recently dropping the song “Wham,” DRAM has announced a new album: What Had Happened Was will arrive October 27 via the rapper and singer’s own label, Waver Records. He’s also sharing the new single “Let Me See Your Phone,” which was co-produced by Rory Farrell and Chiiild. Check it out below.

What Had Happened Was is DRAM’s third studio album overall and the follow-up to his 2021 record Shelley FKA DRAM. The new LP will find DRAM leaning “heavily into his soul side” and exploring themes of mental health, fame, grief, and personal relationships, according to a press release.

Last year, DRAM changed his moniker to Shelley FKA DRAM to acknowledge his birth name and better embody the self-reflection process that went into creating his album of the same name. He’s since decided, however, to return to his original name DRAM after “realizing that regardless of what the direction of the music is like, he is still the same one-of-one artist and person.”
