‘Dragon Ball Super’ Sequel Film Will Screen in Theaters Worldwide This Summer

The second film in the animated Dragon Ball Super film franchise is slated to grace theaters this summer. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero across theaters globally, offering viewings of the film in its original Japanese audio with subtitles, as well as an English dubbed version.

The screenings will mark the first time a Crunchyroll film has received a worldwide theatrical debut. Viewers in “all continents, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (excluding Japan)” will be able to see Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in theaters sometime this summer, according to Crunchyroll’s announcement. The film will debut in Japan first on June 11.

Created with Toei Animation, the film’s synopsis reads as follows:

“The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!”

2018’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the inaugural film in the franchise, was released to critical acclaim and became one of the highest-grossing anime films of all time.

In other entertainment news, a new South Park TV movie is coming this June.
