Attorney Howard King, the lawyer of Dr. Dre, has shared a statement in regards to who owns the esteemed rapper and producer’s 1992 album, The Chronic.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, King called out the “false reports” regarding the news of The Chronic, “There are false reports out regarding ownership by Death Row of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. Dr. Dre owns 100% of The Chronic.”
The statement arrives shortly after Snoop Dogg claimed that he owns the masters of The Chronic, thanks to his recent acquisition of Death Row Records. He confirmed, however, that 2Pac‘s masters were not part of the Death Row deal. “As far as Tupac’s masters, Tupac’s masters came back to him last year,” he said. “But I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out … to continue some Death Row Tupac business now that Snoop Dogg is in control of Death Row.”
Previous reports suggested that Dr. Dre and 2Pac’s Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory were not included in the Death Row acquisition. Pac’s records left the label on January 1 this year while The Chronic was allegedly on track to be returned as early as 2023.
