The Recording Academy and the Black Music Collective will honor Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone with 2023’s Global Impact Awards. The accolade, which recognizes “personal and professional achievements in the music industry,” will be presented at the Hollywood Palladium on February 2.
First-time Grammy nominee Adam Blackstone is on board as the ceremony’s musical director, and Recording Academy Board of Trustees Vice Chair Rico Love will lead the event. Notably, the 2022 Global Impact Awards were given to John Legend, MC Lyte, D-Nice and record label Love Renaissance.
“I am so thrilled to honor and celebrate these four giants in the music industry,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. in a statement. “Last year’s inaugural event was such a highlight during GRAMMY Week and now with Dre, Missy, Wayne and Sylvia there to pay tribute to this year, it’s definitely going to be another night to remember. I continue to be proud of the work of our Black Music Collective as it’s a vital part of what we do here at the Academy.”
The 65th annual Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 5.
