Dover Street Market Will Partner With Felix Art Fair to Create Joint Installation

Dover Street Market (DSM) has always been known for showcasing sculptural displays, but next February, the retailer will broaden its offerings through a new partnership with Felix Art Fair and American mixed-media artist Oscar Tuazon. Born in Seattle and now based in LA, Tuazon uses natural and industrial materials to create minimalistic environments that probe into humanity’s relationship with architectural spaces.

The partnership developed rather naturally for Felix and DSM, both of which take an unorthodox approach to their respective industries. According to Al Morán, one of the three co-founders of the fair and head of Morán Morán gallery, he saw an “overlap in the audience” between DSM’s customer and Felix’ main clientele.

DSM’s vice president James Gilchrist echoed Morán’s sentiment, telling WWD: “I have been thinking for some time about doing an off-site event in L.A. but could never quite figure out how to do it without it looking contrived. Then serendipitously — like many of the best things in life — an email from Al Morán arrived in my inbox, and I knew immediately this was it.”

“Felix L.A. embraces discovery and spontaneity — both of which are key to the ‘beautiful chaos’ ethos of Dover Street Market,” Gilchrist added. “Felix cofounders Al, Mills, and Dean have taken a completely new and innovative approach to the traditional art fair experience which is incredibly exciting and felt natural for DSM to be involved. We’re also honored to work with Oscar Tuazon, an artist we have admired for a long time, to transform DSM and incorporate the shop into his own work.”

Housed at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, the forthcoming Felix Art Fair will present 66 international galleries from February 28 to March 3, including Bel Ami, Residency Art Gallery and Kavi Gupta. Learn more about the upcoming fair online, including the full list of exhibitors below.
