Donald Glover Will Reportedly Star in Spider-Man Movie Following Villain Hypno-Hustler

Donald Glover is slated to star and produce a feature film for Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man universe, according to sources via The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, which does not currently have a title, will reportedly follow the Hypno-Hustler, a more distant villain in the Marvel Comics domain. Myles Murphy, son of actor Eddie Murphy, is attached as a writer on the film.

Hypno-Hustler first emerged in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man No. 24 in 1978. Outside of his foe persona, the character’s real name is Antoine Delsoin. Created by Bill Mantlo, the writer behind Rocket Racoon, Hypno-Hustler is the frontman of the disco band Mercy Killers who taps into hypnosis technology to rob his audiences.

While Hypno-Hustler is not a central Spider-Man villain, THR‘s sources say that the character emerged in part due to Glover’s musical talents and his largely unknown plot lines. Glover’s name has long been tossed around in the Spider-Man circle, with many hoping the multi-hyphenate would play the role in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. That role went to Andrew Garfield, but Glover did voice Spidey in Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man.

Sony has a long roster of movies based on both the heroes and villains from the Spider-Man world in development, including Kraven the HunterMadame Web and Spider-Woman.

In more entertainment news, the new Barbie teaser trailer stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
