Doja Cat and SZA Win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at 2022 Grammys

Doja Cat and SZA Win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at 2022 Grammys

Doja Cat and SZA have won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More.” They won the award over BTS (“Butter”), Coldplay (“Higher Power”), Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco (“Lonely”), and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (“I Get a Kick Out of You”). It’s Doja Cat’s first-ever Grammy win.

SZA walked to the stage on crutches to receive the award—at one point, Lady Gaga helped her out—but still managed to beat Doja Cat to the microphone. When Doja Cat showed up, out of breath, she said, “I have never taken such a fast piss in my whole life,” and adjusted her dress. Later in her speech, she started to cry. “I like to downplay shit. But this? It’s a big deal.”

Explaining why she was on crutches today, SZA said in an interview with Variety, “I fell out of bed before I came here. Whenever something big happens to me, something crazy happens too.”

Doja Cat racked up eight nominations this year, with “Kiss Me More” also up for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Planet Her was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, while her other nods included Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Need to Know”) and Best Rap Song for her guest appearance on Saweetie’s “Best Friend.”

Outside of “Kiss Me More,” SZA received a nomination for Best R&B Song with her track “Good Days.” Follow all of Pitchfork’s coverage of the 2022 Grammys.
