‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Screenwriter Comments on Appearances of ‘X-Men’ Mutants

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which premiered earlier this month, has sparked discussions about the endless possibilities of the multiverse. One of the topics debated was whether or not the mutants from the X-Men series would ever appear in the MCU, and although the movie did feature a variant of Professor X, fans questioned why weren’t there more mutants from the X-Men series. Specifically, more mutants connected to Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff, who is a mutant herself.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Michael Waldron, screenwriter of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was asked why the studio did not take reference from the famous House of M saga. Waldron’s answer was clear: he did not want to shift the focus,

“Yeah, we talked about House of M, and there’s plenty of examples of Wanda doing bad things throughout the comics in an effort to get her kids back. But ultimately this story didn’t need mutants to be powerful, I guess was our feeling. And, you know, wherever that lies on the timeline for the MCU, it didn’t feel like this was the right place to introduce it — because then it suddenly would have just been about mutants. And this is really a story about Wanda and her grief and her descent into darkness in this movie.”

Elsewhere in entertainment, Oscar Isaac wishes X-Men: Apocalypse “was a better film.”
