Disney+ to Crack Down on Password Sharing

Disney+ to Crack Down on Password Sharing

Disney+ has announced that it will be taking action on password sharing, following the lead Netflix set in early May. Its CEO Bob Iger said the platform is “actively exploring ways to address account sharing.”

At the time of writing, Disney+ has not announced any price increases or penalties specifically related to password sharing, as Netflix has implemented in specific regions. Iger did explain, however, that Disney+ “will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies,” later in the year and will also “roll out tactics to drive monetization” in 2024.

The CEO expressed that a “significant” number of accounts have been sharing passwords and that despite what people might think, the platform does have the “technical capability” to monitor sign-in activity.

He further explained that “While it is likely you’ll see some impact in calendar 24, it’s possible that… the work will not be completed within the calendar year but we certainly have established this as a real priority, and we actually think that there’s an opportunity here to help us grow our business.”

In related news, Disney+ and Hulu unveil price increases for ad-free tiers.
