Olympus is calling at Disney+ with the official release of the trailer for the upcoming series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The series, which is based on Rick Riordan’s popular young adult book series of the same name, follows a 12-year-old boy named Percy, played by Walker Scobell. While he does lead a normal life, he later learns that he is actually a half-blood — half human, half Greek god. As the son of Poseidon, Percy moves to Camp Half-Blood, where he meets other demigod children who also receive protection and training to hone in their unique skills. Percy is called ot his first quest, finding Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt with the help of his friends, a satyr called Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and a fellow-blood Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) who is also the daughter of Athena.
Scobell stars alongside Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullay, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, Charlie Bushnell and Adam Copeland. Guest stars include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Toby Stephens, Jay Duplass, Timothy Omundson, Lance Reddick, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy. Differently from the 2010 film adaptations that tended to stray from the novels, Riordan was closely involved in the making of the series at Disney+. Jon Steinberg co-wrote the pilot with Riordan, and James Bobin directed it. Steinberg and Bobin are also executive producers.
